What is an engraving or antique print? The engravings/prints that you will see on this website are both wood and steel and date over 100 years old. The images you will see typically were made following this process: 1) A sketch artist was sent into the field to capture a scene or event 2) The sketches were then given to an engraver that carved/engraved the sketchs into wood (often boxwood) or steel ...in reverse 3) Ink was put into the engraved wood/steel and the images were printed on paper. 4) At a later time, the prints were handpainted.
